9. Rope-Wrapped Bottle Lights

9

For a coastal, bohemian, or beachy garden vibe, rope-wrapped bottle lights are an easy win. They feel handmade and relaxed, and they catch the warm glow of the light inside in such a pretty way.

Materials: Glass bottles (wine, beer, or olive oil bottles work well), jute rope or sisal twine, hot glue gun, string fairy lights or cork lights, decorative charms (optional).

How to make them: Clean the bottles thoroughly and remove all labels. Starting at the base, attach the end of the rope with a dot of hot glue and wrap upward in a tight spiral, gluing every few inches to keep it secure. Stop about three inches from the neck. Insert a strand of cork-shaped fairy lights (these have tiny bulbs on a flexible wire) into the bottle. The cork holds the wire in place and looks like a real bottle stopper.

Time: 1 to 2 hours per bottle

Difficulty: Intermediate (patience required for the wrapping)

Customization: Use colored rope for a fun pop, or wrap only the bottom third of the bottle for a more minimal look. Tuck a few seashells into the rope at the base if you’re going for a beachy theme.

These look magical on a summer evening, especially with the twine catching the warm amber light. Place them at path edges or hang them from low branches with twine loops.
