5. Copper Pipe Path Markers

For a more modern, polished look, copper pipe path markers offer clean lines and warm metallic tones that develop a beautiful patina over time. These look like something from a high-end garden catalog, but they’re surprisingly straightforward to build.
Materials: Thin copper pipe (about half-inch diameter), copper end caps, small solar path lights or LED puck lights, pipe cutter, sandpaper.
How to make them: Cut the copper pipe into 12 to 18-inch segments. Smooth the cut ends with sandpaper and attach end caps to the top. Insert a small solar or LED light into the top of the pipe. Push the bottom of the pipe into the soil along your pathway. Done.
Time: 1 to 2 hours
Difficulty: Intermediate
Customization: Vary the heights of the pipes for a more dynamic, sculptural look. Or leave the copper untreated and let it weather naturally for that gorgeous blue-green patina that develops with time and rain.
These look stunning flanking a modern walkway, paired with gravel and structured plantings. The copper glows warmly in late afternoon sunlight and shines gently at night.
