7. Terracotta Pot Candle Holders

7

Terracotta pots have such a warm, earthy presence in a garden. Turn them upside down and they become the perfect base for a pathway light. Stack a couple of different sizes for a tiered look, or use single pots at ground level for something simpler.

Materials: Small terracotta pots in various sizes, LED tea lights or pillar candles, outdoor acrylic paint (optional), sealant, sand or small pebbles for weight.

How to make them: If you’re using the pots upside down as a base, you don’t need to do much. Just set them along the path and place a candle on top. For a tiered version, stack a small pot on top of a larger one, slightly off-center for visual interest. Paint them in soft whites, sage greens, or terracotta-enhancing colors. Seal with a weatherproof sealant if painting.

Time: 30 minutes to 1 hour

Difficulty: Beginner

Customization: Wrap the base of each pot with twine, lace, or a strip of patterned fabric for a soft, romantic touch. You can also drill small drainage holes in the bottom if you want to use the pots for actual plants on sunny days.

LED candles are the way to go here, especially if you live somewhere windy or have kids and pets running around. The flickering effect is so realistic now that even the most observant guests will think they’re real.
