4. Shabby Chic Drop Cloth Wreath

Drop cloths from the hardware store are one of the best-kept secrets in budget DIY decor. They’re inexpensive, the canvas-look fabric has lovely texture, and they age beautifully. A drop cloth wreath has that gently worn, vintage feel that suits cottage, farmhouse, and coastal homes alike.
Materials: A canvas painter’s drop cloth, a 16-inch wire wreath frame, lace trim, a length of twill ribbon for the hanger, hot glue, and a few small embellishments like fabric flowers or wooden letters.
Instructions: Wash and dry the drop cloth first to soften it and remove the stiff finish. Cut into 2-inch strips. Tie each strip onto the frame in the same way as the rag wreath above. Once full, layer lace trim around the outer edge, securing with hot glue. Add a small cluster of fabric flowers and a wooden monogram in the center if desired.
Time: 2 hours. Difficulty: Beginner.
For a coastal version, pair the drop cloth with soft blue ticking stripe fabric. For French country, add a small bird figurine or a sprig of dried lavender. The natural canvas color complements almost any door paint, from navy to sage to classic red.
