2. Felt Poinsettia Wreath

2

Poinsettias signal Christmas like nothing else. This wreath uses layered felt petals to create full, soft blooms that look lovely from the street. It is a good project for someone who enjoys cutting and arranging shapes.

Materials: Felt sheets in deep red, blush pink, and cream, a 14-inch grapevine or foam wreath base, floral wire, hot glue, and small yellow beads for the flower centers.

Instructions: Cut petal shapes in three sizes. For each poinsettia, layer the largest petals first, then medium, then small, staggering them so they look natural. Glue the layers together at the center. Add a cluster of yellow beads to mimic the flower’s center. Arrange five to seven poinsettias around the wreath base and secure them with floral wire and glue.

Time and difficulty: Two to three hours. Intermediate, mostly because cutting and layering take time.

Customization: Use white and silver felt for a winter wonderland feel, or pink and burgundy for a romantic look. You can also add small felt leaves in green between the flowers.

Common mistake: Gluing the petals too flat. Curl the edges slightly with your fingers or a warm iron to give them dimension.

Display: This wreath looks best on a protected door. A glass storm door or a covered porch keeps the felt from getting soggy.
