7. Concrete and Glass Industrial Lanterns

Combining raw cast concrete with clean glass hurricanes produces sturdy, wind-resistant lighting ideal for open, breezy terraces.

  • Materials: Fast-setting concrete mix, recycled plastic tubs (for molds), cylindrical glass hurricane chimneys, and pillar candles.
  • Assembly: Mix concrete and pour it into the plastic base mold. Press the bottom 1 inch of the glass hurricane directly into the wet center, weighting it down slightly until the concrete cures. Once hardened, remove the plastic mold and seal the porous concrete base.
  • Styling: Place these heavy fixtures along low perimeter walls or beside poolside lounge chairs where lighter lanterns might blow over.
