Repurposed aluminum and steel food cans yield dramatic shadow patterns when perforated with decorative patterns.
- Materials: Clean soup or coffee cans, hammer, nails of varying gauges, spray paint, and tea light candles.
- Assembly: Fill the cans with water and freeze them completely before hammering; the ice prevents the thin metal from denting under impact. Draw a floral, starry, or geometric pattern onto paper, tape it around the can, and tap the nail through the template. Once melted and dried, coat the exterior in matte black or copper spray paint.
- Styling: Line these luminaries along retaining walls or border garden beds to cast intricate light patterns across gravel paths.
