2. Mason Jar Lanterns with Spooky Faces

Mason jars are a DIY staple, and with a little paint, they can become adorable—or creepy—Halloween lanterns. Clean the outside of a mason jar and use black acrylic paint to draw ghostly faces, jack-o’-lantern expressions, or even simple silhouettes like cats or witches. If you’re not confident in your freehand skills, print out a silhouette, tape it to the inside of the jar, and trace the outline for a crisp design.
Once the paint is dry, place a battery-operated tea light inside the jar. For a softer glow, wrap the jar in orange or purple tissue paper before adding the light. These lanterns can sit on a table, line a windowsill, or even hang from a hook with a bit of twine. The project takes about 30 minutes (plus drying time) and is a great way to reuse jars you already have.
Budget-friendly alternative: Use stickers or cut-out vinyl shapes instead of paint for a no-mess option.
