Surface etching allows you to achieve the complexity of an illustration without dealing with fragile, cut-through hollows.
- Technique: Transfer a detailed architectural stencil of a Victorian haunted house, complete with crooked turrets, wrought-iron fences, and bare trees.
- Execution: Use wood-carving tools to scrape away the pumpkin’s outer rind within the window panes and around the house’s perimeter, leaving the black silhouette of the mansion intact. Because the pumpkin wall remains largely unbroken, the inner flesh diffuses the candle flame into an eerie, amber fog.
