During the mid-Victorian era, “Fern Mania” (Pteridomania) swept the world, resulting in thousands of exquisite botanical lithographs. Moody fern plates focus on deep emeralds, shadowy forest greens, and golden-brown sori patterns on the undersides of delicate fronds. A series of three or four vertical fern studies can frame a larger central illustration, introducing soothing natural repetition.
