5. Beaded Lizard and Animal Keychains
A classic summer camp craft that remains popular, the beaded lizard keychain teaches the basics of flat bead weaving. This project works exceptionally well with green, neon orange, and yellow pony beads, but you can customize the color palette for frogs, geckos, and snakes.
Take a three-foot length of satin rattail cord and thread it through a split key ring, centering the ring. String two pony beads onto one strand, then take the opposite strand and thread it through the same beads in the reverse direction. Pull both ends tight to form the snout. Repeat this step-by-step bidirectional threading technique to build the head, legs, body, and tail, finishing with a secure double knot at the tail tip.
