6. DIY Tassel Garland

6

A tassel garland adds a playful, festive touch to any room. It’s perfect for teens who love color and texture, and it can be hung above a bed, along a wall, or even around a mirror. Making tassels is a fun, repetitive craft that’s easy to do while watching TV or listening to music.

Materials: Yarn or embroidery floss in various colors, scissors, cardboard or a tassel maker, string or twine.

How to: To make a tassel, wrap yarn around a piece of cardboard (about 4 inches wide) 20–30 times. Slide a separate piece of yarn under the top loops, tie it tightly, then slide the loops off the cardboard. Cut the bottom loops to create the fringe, and trim evenly. Repeat to make as many tassels as needed, then string them onto twine at equal intervals.

Time: 2–4 hours (depending on the number of tassels)

Difficulty: Easy

Display Suggestion: Hang the garland above a window, along a wall, or even as a headboard alternative.

Common Mistake: Avoid making tassels too long—they can look messy if they’re not uniform.
